Healthy Habits: Eating right, exercise key for Dr. Kent Osborne

healthy-habits-osborneIt can sometimes be difficult to find ways to stay healthy, so we’ve asked members of our Baylor College of Medicine community to share what they do in their daily lives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Kent Osborne, professor and director of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine, shares his healthy habits.

Q: What healthy decisions start your day?
A: No snacks and get to exercise that night.

Q: What is your go-to healthy breakfast?
A: Blueberries, yogurt, a protein bar, and mixed nuts.

Q: What is your favorite type of exercise?
A: Working out with trainer.

Q: What keeps you motivated during your workout? (music, tv, phone call, etc.)
A: My age.

Q: What activities do you do when you can’t fit in a full workout?
A: Stair climbing, elliptical, or bicycle.

Q: What is your favorite healthy snack?
A: Mixed nuts.

Q: Do you take vitamins and if so, which ones?
A: Vitamin D 3 and B complex.

Q: How do you make an unhealthy recipe healthy (healthy substitutions?)
A: Vinegar and oil rather than creamy dressing for a salad.

Q: What hobbies do you have to help you relax?
A: Exercise

Q: What is your go-to Houston restaurant for a healthy meal?
A: Express Salad

Q: Do you use a pedometer or Fitbit and what is your daily step goal?
A: 10,000 but no.

Q: What is your favorite health tip that you live by?
A: Salads, fruit and veggies, and fish or chicken for protein.
