Throwback Thursday: Snow in Houston?

For Houston natives it can be a shocking sight. Enough snow to create the base and mid-section of a snowman? But in 1973, our students saw the snow and went out and frolicked.

In this photo from the College’s 1973 Aesculapian yearbook, a group of students pose with their nearly finished creation. This year also marked a departure from yearbooks past, where every page was in color.

According to records from the Weather Research Center, the metro area saw more than four inches of snow in 1973 with three different snowfalls. The only year where records show more snowfall in a year was during 1895. The city saw more than 20 inches accumulate over a two-day period.
